Snow is expected to develop across much of Central Illinois this evening. Precipitation may begin as a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain between I-72 and I-70, with all rain south of I-70 for a majority of this event. Current expectations are for most of the area north of a line from Taylorville to Danville to receive 4 to 6 inches of new snowfall, with 2-4″ in the corridor from Mattoon to Paris, and 1-2″ south of there. In addition, north winds will increase to around 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph by midday Saturday, leading to blowing and drifting of the snow as well as reduced visibilities. Hazardous driving conditions are expected to develop this evening and continue through at least Saturday night. Stay tuned for updates as the event approaches.
