Central Illinois Regional Airport officials in Bloomington are looking for ways to reverse a disappointing trend. Last year’s passenger traffic was the lowest since 1997, when 281,942 passengers flew in and out of the airport. The blame appears to be based on everything from airline mergers, a pilot shortage to a slowdown in local business. While passenger traffic declined, the airport reported a 16 percent increase in cargo freight in 2017.
