Bloomington is spending $4.4 million to fix streets this construction season, which is $400,000 more in street resurfacing and $200,000 more in pavement preservation work than last year. City officials tell the Pantagraph the increase is far less than what is needed, and Mayor Renner wants a motor fuel tax increase to provide more money to speed up getting them fixed. Renner said he wants a council discussion soon about raising the motor fuel tax by 4 cents and to dedicate that funding to just streets.
