Illinois Democrats want to set up a state-monitored insurance company to drive down workers’ compensation insurance costs. The House voted 62-43 Thursday on a plan that would establish an independent underwriter with a $10 million state loan. It would act as an insurance company in the market and pay back the loan.
State Senator Bill Brady stands with Governor Rauner in opposing the bill.
Appearing Friday on Cities 92.9’s Morning Buzz with Tom Davis, Brady says, “The state can’t run what it’s doing now. So, the idea that we would efficiently run a worker’s comp insurance company, to me, is not plausible. Let’s focus on what we’re doing now and do it right.”
