Subway® will present a check for $54,487 to the Honor Flight Network on Tuesday, May 8, marking the end of a successful fundraising campaign.
Subway® locations in Wisconsin and Illinois partnered with their local Honor Flight hubs—including Milwaukee, Green Bay/Appleton, Wausau and Marquette, Wis., and Peoria, Ill.—to raise funds to send World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans on Honor Flights.
The check presentation will take place at 8:45 p.m. at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport, in Peoria, Illinois (6100 Everett McKinley Dirksen Pkwy). A plane full of veterans will be landing around 9:30, when the Vet Welcome Home Ceremony is expected to begin.
“Our Veterans sacrificed greatly for our freedom so many years ago. Honor Flight is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to these Heroes by giving them the day of honor they deserve in Washington D.C. We are extremely grateful to the Subway® Franchisees and many customers who generously donated to this campaign,” said Phyllis Piraino, Vice President of Greater Peoria Honor Flight in Illinois.
An Honor Flight is an all-expenses- paid trip for our oldest veterans to fly to Washington, D.C. to see the city’s memorials and experience a full day of honor and thanks for their service.
The Honor Flight Network is a national organization that was founded in 2006 in Springfield, Ohio, to fly World War II veterans to see their memorial. Now, 11 years later, over 130 Honor Flight Network.
