The Normal town council approved their ordinance by a 5-2 vote that ensures residents regardless of legal status that police will be very careful with their contacts with ICE. The Bloomington version that was proposed earlier before getting shelved for the moment would try to ensure that people, regardless of their immigration status, felt welcome, but also make it clear that under some circumstances, especially with sex or labor trafficking, our police have to communicate with ICE and other law enforcement agencies.
