Farmer City is now a “gun sanctuary.” Officials say it’s a way to emphasize their support of the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The resolution makes Farmer City the first city/town in Illinois to oppose any state legislation that could restrict individuals’ rights protected by the Second Amendment and notes city employees will be prohibited from enforcing any state actions that violate the amendment. The resolution does not override any federal, state or local laws.
