The snow will continue through Thursday morning before gradually dissipating and coming to an end by late Thursday afternoon. Enough warm air will arrive aloft to cause the snow to mix with freezing rain along and east of I-57 Thursday morning. The highest snow totals will be focused along and southwest of a Springfield to Effingham line where 3 to 5 inches will be likely. Snow totals will taper off further north and west…with little or no snow accumulation expected northwest of the Illinois River. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and to allow extra time to arrive at their destinations…particularly for the Thursday morning commute.
