30-year old Danny Smith Jr. of Peoria was sentenced Tuesday to 48 years in prison for the death of a Normal man suffering from ALS during a kidnapping and robbery. Smith pleaded guilty to felony murder in the December 2016 death of 41-year-old Maunds Bryant who suffered from Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Pantagraph reports Maunds fell inside his home before he and his stepfather were taken at gunpoint by Smith to Maunds’ mother’s vehicle. Smith drove the men to a home in Peoria where the stepfather managed to escape and get help. Smith was arrested as he ran from police. The victim died in a Peoria hospital on Christmas Day 2016.
