It’s the fifth consecutive year Illinois has seen a population loss.
The U.S. Census Bureau lists Illinois second in the country for the most population loss, with 45,116 people leaving the state in 2018. Only New York saw a larger population loss, with 48,510 people moving away.
Illinois ranks sixth in the list of most populous states, with 12,741,080 people in 2018 behind California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.
