The state of Illinois has developed proposed rules for growing industrial hemp.
The crop is similar to marijuana, but does not contain THC, the active ingredient that produces the “high” in pot. It can be used for a variety of products, from textiles to plastics.
Growing hemp had been banned in Illinois until Governor Bruce Rauner signed legislation in August authorizing it.
The state is now accepting public comments for the next 45 days… to be followed by another 45-day period for public discussion before final rules can be adopted.
You can read the proposed rules and make comments through the state Department of Agriculture website.
