Very cold conditions will continue this morning. Despite relatively light winds, the air will be cold for wind chills in the -5 to -15F range for several hours this morning. Mostly sunny conditions will not help with high temperatures, as they top out in the upper teens to mid 20s. Low pressure passing by to the northwest of central Illinois on Tuesday will bring a period of freezing rain changing to rain, which will last into Tuesday night. High temps should climb above freezing in all of central Illinois on Tuesday, helping the precipitation transition to all rain. The rain is expected to transition back to freezing rain or light snow late Tuesday night, as colder air returns. Light icing will be possible, especially on untreated surfaces and trees and powerlines. Slippery travel may develop Tues morning and Tuesday night. Dry conditions are expected on Wednesday, with a period of light snow on tap for Thursday afternoon and evening. Light snow accumulation will be possible.
