The semi driver in a fatal head-on collision with a Normal West High School bus carrying the girls jv basketball team on Interstate 74 near Downs last December was not intoxicated.
WEEK TV reports Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood saying the toxicology results show semi driver, 34-year old Ryan Hute of Delmar, Iowa, had only caffeine in his system. His death was ruled accidental.
Hute and Normal West girl’s junior varsity team volunteer Charlie Crabtree died in the crash. Team coach Steve Price and school bus driver Mark Kuhn were also injured in the crash.
