Immigration Centers of America has contacted officials in Dwight about an 88-acre parcel of land near Interstate 55 and Illinois 17 for a federal center to house 1,200 men awaiting immigration hearings. Village President Jared Anderson tells the Pantagraph the estimated $20 million facility would employ about 280 people if approved. It is not a done deal. Other sites around the nation are being considered with the proximity of railroads and hospitals to a facility being factored into the final decision. The Dwight Planning Commission will consider an annexation agreement on February 19th and will work on a plan from there if approved.
