There are a lot of people who cannot believe the University of Illinois may have an otter as its next mascot. Students will vote this week on whether to suggest Alma Otter as the school’s next mascot. The U of I has struggled to move past Chief Illiniwek since they retired him as a mascot in 2007. Many alumni are insulted that the cute, costumed Otter may be chosen to replace The Chief.
