The University of Illinois‘ next mascot could be a joke. The students who created the Alma Otter mascot say there were just kidding around, but now they say students have come to support their creation. The News-Gazette in Champaign says Austin Lindell and John Farwick created the mascot last year as a joke. Now, students are voting on whether the otter should replace the long-retired Chief Illiniwek as the school’s mascot. Chief supporters say they don’t find the joke very funny.
