Only six of Bloomington’s 9 aldermen showed up at Monday’s meeting, but they each voted to approve City Manager Tim Gleason’s idea of creating a new city economic development department. The Pantagraph reports assistant to the city manager, Melissa Hon, will lead the department and her current job will be eliminated. The $200,000 for the department’s startup comes from money shifted in the form of a decrease in the proposed fiscal 2020 budget for the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
