Illinois House Democrats are pushing a bill that would block a privately-run immigration detention center from opening in Dwight – or any other city in Illinois. State Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) introduced House Bill 2040, which would ban the state or any local government from operating a private detention facility. It would also bar local municipalities or law enforcement from entering contracts, receiving payments, providing payments or giving any financial incentives to a detention facility operated by a private company.
