There is new legislation to help with voter turnouts in the general and consolidated elections in Illinois. Voters are eligible to receive $25 just for coming out to vote. Voters have to apply for this tax credit when they file taxes. State Senator Ram Villivalam, D-Chicago, proposed this idea based off of a study done by a Fordham University Political Scientist during a municipal election and found a five-percent voter turnout increase. Villivalam said it’s the same idea as small business tax credits but some feel like it’s a bribe.
