Illinois is finally ready to issue Real ID cards. Secretary of State Jesse White yesterday said his office will be able to meet the federal requirement that people have the new ID’s in order to fly or get into a federal building by October of next year. Real ID cards are more secure because they require more proof of identity. White says if you don’t fly or need an ID to get somewhere, your current Illinois driver’s license or ID card will still be valid.
