Several Bloomington residents are calling out Mayor Tari Renner and Alderwoman Jenn Carrillo for comments they’ve made.
Two people spoke out at yesterday’s City Council meeting, taking issue with Renner’s remark during the mayor’s May 24th open house that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas doesn’t behave “like someone who is African-American.”
Carillo was criticized for an online campaign she waged against a new restaurant, saying its name The Gypsy Room had racist overtones.
The business has since changed the name but representatives are concerned about the precedent such a campaign by a sitting official could set.
