
A raccoon that found its way into an electrical cabinet, damaging equipment, caused a power outage Monday morning for 211 customers in downtown Springfield, including some state office buildings, City Water, Light and Power officials said.
They included the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in the Ridgely Building and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce among others.
Other state buildings affected earlier in the day were the Illinois Commerce Commission in the Leland Building; Community College Board at 401 E. Capitol Ave.; State Treasurer’s Office, Unclaimed Property in the Myers Building; and the Department of Children and Family Services, at 4 Old State Capitol Plaza.
Springfield’s City, Water, Light and Power said on its Twitter account that the raccoon survived its encounter.
