After 27 years serving the city of Pontiac, Mayor Robert Russell is resigning, effective July 31.
Russell has served as mayor of Pontiac since 2009, and before that he was on City Council for 17 years. Russell, 72, tells WEEK TV he didn’t intend to run for his current term, hoping to retire sooner, but no one ran against him.
Pontiac City Council will have 60 days to appoint an interim mayor to serve out the remainder of Russell’s term. During that time, a Mayor Pro Tem will fill in during council meetings
