Midwest Food Bank is sending disaster relief to help victims of flooding in south Texas.
At the request of The Salvation Army, a truck load of family food boxes left the MFB Bloomington-Normal location on Monday, July 1, and another will leave on Monday, July 8. In addition to the food boxes, hygiene kits and cleaning supplies will be included in the second load.
As a first responder for The Salvation Army, MFB is able to get relief on the road with 24 hours of a request. Family food boxes contain enough shelf-stable food to feed a four-person family for four to five days. Volunteer assemble, fill and drive the boxes to disaster sites where The Salvation Army oversees distribution.
“We’re blessed to be able to provide relief for those suffering in Texas,” says Tara Ingham, Executive Director of MFB Bloomington-Normal. “For those wishing to help, financial donations give Midwest Food Bank the flexibility to quickly and efficiently respond to the needs of the flood victims.”
Those wishing to help cover the cost of the supplies or the fuel needed to transport them may do so by visiting MidwestFoodBank.org, and clicking “Donate.” On the donation form, select “Disaster Relief” for the designation.
