Southern Illinois is facing national controversy after the country rock band Confederate Railroad was removed from the Du Quoin State Fair’s grandstand lineup last week. The controversy over the removal centers around the First Amendment and their use of the name and symbols of the Confederacy. A Facebook group calling for a boycott of the fair has reached more than 24-hundred members in four days. Several Southern Illinois venues are working to book the band for a local makeup show.
