Bloomington city leaders met with State Farm executives on Thursday to explore ways to save the building.
State Farm officials said after the meeting they still plan to demolish the building, however they are willing to talk a little more with the city.
Local historian Greg Koos, spokesman for Save Our State Farm Building–which is comprised of about 20 downtown stakeholders–tells the local public radio station the group first wants to inform the public about the impact demolishing the 90-year-old building would have.
According to published reports, Koos believes State Farm rushed its decision to tear down the iconic building before exploring all possibilities.
Meanwhile, WEEK TV reports business is claiming the State Farm building in Bloomington as their headquarters, and the Better Business Bureau of Central Illinois says it’s a scam.
Ship2Fast claims to offer work-from-home employment for a gift-wrapping service. Packages would be shipped to their workers. They would then inspect them and re-ship them to a different location. The website says they would be paid monthly.
BBB tells WEEK TV it is part of a much larger scam where credit card numbers are stolen, goods are purchased and sent to these individuals believed to be working from home. Then, they’re repackaged and shipped off to some other location, usually outside the country.
