If a straw poll held by the McLean County Republicans at the McLean County Fair is any indication, the Progressive Tax Amendment that’s to appear on the 2020 General Election Ballot will not fare very well.
The McLean County Republicans provided 5 days of information, interaction and entertainment at the county fair this last week in Bloomington. One of the key features of the Republican tent was a straw poll on the proposed Progressive Tax Amendment which will be on the ballot in 2020 for all Illinois voters.
The following question was put to fair attendees: The constitution of Illinois should be amended to change the income tax rate from a flat rate to a progressive rate; Yes or No. Two hundred and four people participated in that poll with 191 voting NO and 13 voting YES.
Informational handouts were made available on the topic for those who were unsure of their vote.
“The proposed amendment to change our income tax rate to a progressive rate is a flawed proposal on many levels”, says Connie Beard, Chairman of the McLean County Republicans. “We had many discussions with fair goers about this issue and found many are not yet aware of the full language of the proposal or its impact. One of our missions this year will be educating voters on the dangers of the progressive tax amendment. We are encouraged by the results of the fair poll but also challenged to help all voters understand the issue,” according to Beard.
