I spent the afternoon yesterday at a local event where Congressman Rodney Davis and Darin LaHood would be speaking on many different matters in relation to the local and National political state. The event took place on August 20th, 2019 around 11:30 am. The Holiday Inn ballroom was packed with business-owners, friends, and town representatives. It started with the McLean Co. Chamber of Commerce delivering a brief introduction on the event and welcomed all who made the trip.
Shortly after that, the meals were placed at the table when Davis and Lahood were given questions about the state of Illinois and McLean County. The questions touched on infrastructure in the state and national level, the red flag laws, and even escalated to the importance of realizing the student debt crisis in the country. The local business owners who attended seemed to be very upbeat and hopeful about the state of our congress and local economic status. Davis and LaHood spoke for about 45 minutes, highlighting many different bills that they have voted on or would like to make a move on in the future.
The conversation also touched on jobs in the state as well as the hope shared in Rivian for the McLean County economy. Each Congressman spoke after another with their support as well as differences in opinions on many topics. The topic that I found most interesting was about the population decrease in the state. Davis and LaHood touched on the importance of our population in elections as well as in the fundamental economic base of the state. Each spoke in their own beliefs but agreed with one another on most fundamental issues.
The event concluded after a handful of important questions and answers were given to the congressmen. It was a smooth running event in every aspect. On the drive home, I took a sense of pride to be from Illinois and McLean County, which I personally haven’t seen for a long time. I believe that there is immense possibility the future of the state and here in the twin cities.
