Gov. J.B. Pritzker and 11 other Democratic governors have sent a letter to President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell calling for them enact gun control legislation.
Several fatal mass shootings have occurred in Illinois after a federal assault weapons ban expired in 2004. Northern Illinois University, Mercy Hospital in Chicago and Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora have all been sites of mass shootings.
Pritzker is being joined by the governors of California, Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington in sending the letter.
