Amazon plans to buy 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced Thursday.
According to USA Today, Amazon, which committed to be carbon neutral by 2040, has been facing pressure from its employees and activists to reduce its emissions in an effort to combat climate change.
Amazon says this $440 million investment will accelerate the production of electric vehicles critical to reducing emissions from transportation.
Amazon invested $400 million in Rivian earlier. Ford also backs the Normal, IL electric vehicle maker with millions of dollars.
