A load of Disaster Relief will be leaving Midwest Food Bank Bloomington-Normal today at 2 p.m. The load, requested by The Salvation Army yesterday, will be taken to Beaumont, TX for the flood ravaged areas of Houston, TX. It will include 960 family food boxes and hygiene kits.
As a Salvation Army First Responder, Midwest Food Bank can have relief on the road within 24 hours of a call. Each family food box contains enough food to feed a family of four for four to five days. Boxes are assembled, filled, loaded and driven to disaster sites entirely by volunteers.
Midwest Food Bank had 4 loads of disaster relief ready to deliver. At his time, there are not any packing events planned.
“Volunteers interested in packing disaster relief boxes should watch Midwest Food Bank Bloomington-Normal’s Facebook page for information,” says Tara Ingham, Executive Director of the location. “Those wishing to contribute financially should go to our website, midwestfoodbank.org. Financial donations give us the ability to quickly respond to relief requests.”
Midwest Food Bank has ten locations, eight in the United States, and one each in East Africa and Haiti. Its mission is to share the love of Christ, by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination.
