
Susan Schafer, current District 9 McLean County Board member, announces today her intention to run for re-election for the Republican nomination for the District 9 County Board seat, which covers southwest and a portion of southeast Bloomington.
“It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve the people of District 9 for the past 9 years. I am humbled by the encouragement and the support by many throughout the district and county to seek another term.”
Elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016, Schafer has been one of the leaders in the creation of the McLean County Mental Health Action Plan and a champion for its implementation, addressing the needs of those with behavioral health problems both inside and outside of the judicial system. “While the work has been challenging, and it has also been rewarding to see the positive impact in the community,” Schafer said. “I am committed to continuing to advance services and supports for youth and adults with behavioral health needs and to eliminate the stigma for those grappling with mental health issues.”
“Additionally, if I have the honor of being re-elected, I will continue to focus on improving the overall financial and operational performance of the McLean County Nursing Home to provide care for elderly residents of our community.” Schafer said.
A 2019 Woman of Distinction nominee, Susan serves as Chair of the Health Committee and is a member of the Executive and Justice Committees, County Liquor Control Commission, Behavioral Health Coordinating Council, Board of Health, Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the Community Health Improvement Plan Behavioral Health Priority Action Team. She and her husband Randy have lived in Bloomington for over 30 years. They have 2 children and one grandchild.
