The push is on to provide Thanksgiving meals to 2,500 local households in need. Midwest Food Bank and Home Sweet Home Ministries and teaming up once again with Schnuck and Hy Vee to reach this goal by November 22nd.
Tara Ingram Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank says several volunteers have been out already shopping for the canned goods and other fixings. Ingram says volunteers have been busy sorting and packing the boxes of dry food at Midwest Food Bank,
Mary Ann Pullen, CEO of Home Sweet Home Ministries, says over 18 churches were involved in this effort to collect nearly 50,000 pounds of food for Give Thanks 2019.
This is where you come in.
Bloomington-Normal grocery stores are helping with the cause. Hy-Vee will be selling the items needed for the boxes in individual or case quantities, in addition to $15 turkey cards.
Schnucks will be selling the $15 turkey cards and $10 prepackaged meal bags. Anyone from the community can visit these locations and donate a turkey or bag.
Donations will also gladly be accepted at Midwest Food Bank located at 2301 Warehouse Drive in Normal or at Home Sweet Home Ministries located at 303 East Oakland Avenue in Bloomington. You can also donate online. Make sure to designate your gift for Give Thanks.
Maty Ann Pullen with Home Sweet Home Ministries reminds you that you can purchase the turkey cards for the Give Thanks families at the checkout at the Hy Vee or Schnucks stores. The stores will then take the turkeys to Midwest Food Bank for distribution prior to Thanksgiving.
