Illinois State University is adding an esports team to its campus.
According to a press release on Monday, the university announced it is launching the program in fall of 2020.
ISU plans to have a varsity team and multiple club teams, called the Redbird E-Sports.
The school says they are the first public institution to offer this at a varsity level.
To date, ISU has 12 competitive e-sports teams that play League of Legends and Overwatch in Julian Hall.
In order to expand the program, space will be made in the Bowling and Billiards Center Activity Room. However, that specific room may not be ready fully by the beginning of Fall 2020.
