The Illinois State Board of Education is suspending the licenses of dozens of educators charged with sex crimes, violent felonies, or certain drug offenses. The suspensions began earlier this month, about six weeks after Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new state law. Many of those whose licenses were suspended were terminated or resigned from their school districts after being arrested, while others remain employed and on leave. If any of the educators are acquitted of their charges, their licenses would be reinstated.
