A bill that would open the door for student athletes to get endorsements has passed the Illinois House.
The bill passed the Illinois House 86 to 25 on Wednesday.
The legislation was filed by Representative Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, to try and help the athletes “receive their fair share.”
House Bill 3904, the Student Athlete Endorsement Act, would allow college student athletes attending any four-year public or private universities in Illinois to be compensated for the use of their name, image, and likeness.
Bloomington-Normal State Rep Dan Brady voted against the measure.
