The Normal City Council is recommending no increases to property taxes for residents. The council instructed the town’s staff yesterday to reject the idea of an increase in the town’s tax levy to pay pension costs. The body also asked staff to find almost 100-thousand dollars in additional savings to keep the levy the same as last year.
Mayor Chris Koos and council member Kathleen Lorenz suggested the town make that change and slightly decrease its projected tax rate, from $1.47 to $1.465 per $100 in equalized assessed value.
Council member Stan Nord urged the town also to keep the levy flat and reject $96,000 in new revenue that resulted from having a similar rate and getting extra revenue from increases in EAV across the town.
