If private investors have no interest in building a $46.3-million complex in Bloomington-Normal, could the respective mayors and councils get involved to bring one to the Twin Cities?
The Pantagragh reports that in July 2018, Florida-based Sports Facilities Advisory proposed a sports complex featuring 16 outdoor fields, and five more multipurpose fields or two baseball or softball fields that could be used year-round under a dome.
The proposal was the result of SFA’s three-month study that cost $47,000 and was paid for by the two municipalities and the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
So far, no investors are showing interest in the idea.
Mayor Renner hoped the councils could meet jointly in a work session, possibly in early December, but Normal Mayor Chris Koos says he is interested in a joint meeting but tells The Pantagraph does not have enough information right now.
