The woman found guilty in the murder of eight-year-old Rica Rountree is requesting a new trial claiming her lawyer at the time provided ineffective counsel.
Cynthia Clay, also known as Cynthia Baker was convicted of first-degree murder in November. Evidence introduced during the trial included videos found on Clay’s iCloud that showed her beating and torturing Rica on several occasions. Rica died January 26th of blunt force injury to the abdomen, the day after she’d been taken for treatment because she’d been kicked in the stomach area by Clay.
Clay was also found guilty of aggravated battery, endangering the life of a child, and all three counts of domestic battery.
