As colder air filters in from the northwest through the day Saturday, rain is expected to gradually transition to a period of mixed precipitation, including sleet and freezing rain, then snow. Current indications suggest accumulating wintery precipitation is possible beginning in northwest Illinois early Saturday morning, then shifting southeast through central Illinois by Saturday night. It is too early to determine exact snowfall amounts, as there is uncertainty in the track of the storm system, and the amount and speed of cold air intrusion which will change the rain over to frozen precipitation. Strong and gusty north winds will accompany the snow for possible blowing and drifting snow. Keep up to date on the latest forecast as this system evolves over the next few days.
