Bloomington MSA: The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 3.4 percent in December 2019 from 4.7 percent in December 2018. There were an estimated 3,200 unemployed people in the labor force in December 2019.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased by (+400) compared to one year ago. Job gains were reported in Leisure & Hospitality (+400), Government (+300), Financial Activities (+200), and Professional and Business Services (+100). Declines were reported in Manufacturing (-500), and Retail (-100). All other major industry sectors were little changed compared to a year ago.
Peoria MSA: The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.6 percent in December 2019 from 5.8 percent in December 2018. There were an estimated 8,000 unemployed people in the labor force in December 2019.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment decreased by (-2,000) compared to one year ago. Job gains were reported in Educational and Health Services (+600), Government (+200), Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities (+100), and Other Services (+100). Declines were reported in Professional & Business Services (-1,200), Manufacturing (-900), Leisure & Hospitality (-500), Retail Trade (-200), Wholesale Trade (-100), and Financial Activities (-100). All other major industry sectors were stable compared to last year.
Ottawa-Streator Area: The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 5.3 percent in December 2019 from 7.1 percent in December 2018. There were an estimated 3,200 unemployed people in the labor force in December 2019. Over the year, nonfarm payrolls increased by (+600) compared to a year ago. The largest gains occurred in Construction (+100), Government (+100), Educational and Health Services (+100), Leisure & Hospitality (+100). Some payroll gains were found in Manufacturing, and Other Services. Financial Activities posted declines. All other major industry sectors were stable compared to last year.
Galesburg Area: The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.8 percent in December 2019 from 6.4 percent in December 2018. Nonfarm payroll employment decreased by (-300). The largest gains occurred in Educational & Health Services and Construction. Declines were reported in Leisure & Hospitality, Government, and Professional & Business Services from a year ago.
Pontiac Area: The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.0 percent in December 2019 from 5.0 percent in December 2018. Nonfarm payroll employment decreased by (-200) compared to one year ago. Job gains were reported in Government, Leisure & Hospitality, and Manufacturing. Declines were reported in Information, Construction, and Educational and Health Services from a year ago.
