An Illinois lawmaker introduced a bill which would prevent parents from obtaining a religious exemption to medical vaccinations and require nearly all Illinois school children to follow the vaccine schedule recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
SB 3668 was introduced by Democrative Senator Heather A. Steans, 7th District, on Friday, February 14th.
Right now in Illinois, a parent can obtain a religious or medical exemption to vaccines, however SB 3668 bill would remove all religious exemptions making all CDC recommended vaccines required to attend kindergarten through college.
This bill would also allow medical personnel or pharmacist to give a vaccine to a child 14 years and older without parent consent or knowledge.
A separate bill recently proposed in Illinois would require sixth grade students to receive the human papillomavirus, or HPV, vaccination.
