The season started with 679 high school girls’ basketball teams across the state; now only 16 teams remain to compete for the 2020 State Championship titles. The state’s top high school girls Class 1A and 2A basketball teams will compete for their title at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Girls Basketball State Finals on February 28-29, 2020 at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena. The championship action will continue at Redbird Arena the following weekend, March 6-7, 2020, when the Class 3A and 4A teams vie for the state title.
Class 1A and 2A semifinal games will begin Friday at 11 a.m. All final games will take place on Saturday with Class 1A at 11 a.m. (third place) and 1 p.m. (championship) and Class 2A at 5:30 p.m. (third place) and 7:15 p.m. (championship). The Class 3A and 4A teams will follow the same schedule the following weekend to determine their respective champions.
Many teams are making their debut at the 2020 IHSA Class 1A and 2A State Finals. Aurora Christian High School will be playing in the Class 1A State Finals for the first time in school history against Shiloh High School. Three out of the final four Class 2A teams competing for the state title are performing on the big stage for the first time. Port Byron (Riverdale), Carterville, and Pleasant Plains will all be making history by playing in the state tournament.
General admission is $10 per session and tickets will be available at the door or by calling the Redbird Arena Ticket Office (309-438-8000).
Nearly 20,000 fans are expected to fill Redbird Arena and the Bloomington-Normal community over the two weekends with an estimated direct economic impact of over $1.4 million.
