The Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health announced Saturday that one person in Illinois has tested positive for COVID-19 (popularly referred to as ‘Coronavirus’).
The department called it a presumptive positive test, which have to be confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The news release stated that the patient is in the hospital, in isolation.
The IDPH said the symptoms reported by patients included:
- mild to severe respiratory illness
- fever
- cough
- difficulty breathing
The IDPH said risk to the general public is low right now, because the virus has not spread widely across the U.S.
The IDPH reaffirmed that people do not need to alter their daily routines. They did ask that people work to prevent the spread of germs by washing their hands with soap and water, covering coughs/sneezes, and staying home when sick.
Prior to this, the state had two confirmed cases of the virus and both people had made a full recovery.
