The Illinois State Police say they can receive up to 20,000 or even 30,000 FOID card applications and renewals each month, which puts a lot of stress on their call center. Which is why they’re expanding the FOID call center.
The Illinois state police will soon be expanding the FOID call center, hiring more people, and upgrading the phone system.
ISP says this is just the first phase of improvements.
ISP is also hiring more firearm analysts, to help issue FOID cards quicker.
They hope to have the first phase of this new call center up this spring.
The expansion costs around $700,000 and it was paid for by the firearms services fund.
