(WMAY) – Legal sports betting has finally arrived in Illinois.
The Rivers Casino in Des Plaines opened its sportsbook operation Monday, allowing people to place wagers on everything from the upcoming baseball season to the NCAA March Madness tournament. The first legal bet placed Monday wagered $100, at 16-to-one odds, that the Chicago White Sox would win the World Series.
Several other Illinois casinos have pending license applications to open their own sports betting operations in the next few weeks.
