As the number of those infected with COVID-19 climbed to nearly 14,000 nationwide on Thursday, some cities have issued shelter-in-place orders, including here in Illinois.
Starting Friday, March 20, the Village of Oak Park in Cook County will mandate that all individuals not employed by essential services must remain in their homes until April 3. Businesses classified as essential include gas stations, pharmacies, and grocery stores.
The orders are enforceable under the Illinois Public Health Act.
Those in violation will be charged with a misdemeanor.
