A Clay County judge has ruled against Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order, siding with State Representative Darren Bailey who says the governor has exceeded his constitutional authority.
The temporary restraining order applies to the governor’s extended order, which is set to take effect this Friday. The current order — which runs through Thursday — remains in place.
UPDATE–THE JUDGE’S RULING ONLY APPLIES TO BAILEY AS THE SOLE PLANTIFF, BUT OPENS THE DOOR FOR OTHERS TO SUE. BAILEY ASSERTS THE GOVERNOR IS VIOLATING THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF ILLINOISANS.
Pritzker reacted angrily to the ruling… saying Representative Darren Bailey’s suit will endanger lives and is an “insult” to those who have battled coronavirus and the medical providers on the front lines of the fight.
Pritzker vowed to appeal the decision… and urged local authorities to keep restrictions in place in order to protect their citizens.
