
Governor JB Pritzker is reacting to criticism of the state’s pursuit of more federal assistance to cope with the financial damage caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Some top Republicans from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley have ripped Illinois’s request for funds, saying the state should not get a bailout for its own financial problems, including its pension crisis.
Pritzker says he wants to know if Illinois Republicans agree that the state should not receive federal assistance to deal with the crisis.
