A woman and her two children died in a fire in rural Lexington early Saturday morning.
Hillery R. Peters,27, and Emerlyn G. Bennett,3, and Sawyer Bennett, 16 month, of Lexington perished in the blaze at fire at 25083 N. Main St. in Westwind Estates in rural Lexington, Illinois.
At 3:36 a.m. hours, was notified of a structure fire at the address. Fire Departments from Lexington, Chenoa, Gridley, Towanda, Hudson and Normal responded to the scene along with the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Police Department, Chenoa Police Department and Illinois State Police.
Preliminary autopsy opinion indicates that Sawyer Bennett, 16 months, died from carbon monoxide intoxication due to inhalation of smoke and soot, due to a trailer home fire.
Preliminary autopsy opinions indicate that both Hillery R. Peters,27, and Emerlyn G. Bennett,3, died from carbon monoxide intoxication due to inhalation of smoke and soot, due to trailer home fire. Ms. Peters is the mother of both Emerlyn and Sawyer.
Preliminary autopsy findings on all three decedents indicated that there was no evidence of altercation, infection, or non-fire-related injury. Toxicology for all decedents is pending.
The cause of this structure fire is under investigation by the MABAS 41 Fire Investigation Team, the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office. In addition, this incident remains under investigation by the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office.
